Police arrest fake NDLEA officials in Kano
The police in Kano State have arrested four persons for allegedly impersonating officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The command’s spokesman, SP Magaji Musa Majia, who disclosed this, yesterday, in a press statement, revealed that the suspects have over a long time been making arrests and extorting money from unsuspecting drug users in Kano metropolis and its environs.
Majia identified the suspects as Tijjani Usman, aka O/C SARS of Kurna Qtrs Kano; Muhammed Musa Haruna, aka Mo of Darmanawa Qtrs; Adamu Usman of Brigade Qtrs and Uzairu Bala of Ungogo LGA, Kano.
He said: “The four criminally conspired and formed a criminal gang posing as officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and went about different parts of the state making arrests and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.”
Majia added that the suspects mainly operated within Badawa, Hotoro. Mariri, Farawa, Eastern Bye-Pass Qtrs and Sabon Gari Market, Kano.
“They had defrauded many unsuspecting people of millions of naira” Majia said, adding that one Jincheng motorcycle, the sum of N17,700, two sets of police uniforms, one handcuff, four sharp knives, one enlarged picture and some quantities of drugs were recovered from them during investigation.
He said the suspects confessed to the crime and mentioned five other members of the syndicate who are currently at large, adding that they would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation is completed.
