Welder remanded over alleged robbery

An Ikeja Magistrate­s’ Court yesterday ordered the remand of Shedrack Okimiji, 24, in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutio­ns (DPPs).

Okimiji, a welder, who resides at No. 13, Apolo St., Makoko, Ebute Metta, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy bordering on armed robbery before Magistrate A. A. Fashola.

Fashola, who gave the ruling, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the DPP for advice.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mike Unah, told the court that Okimiji committed the offence on Aug. 15, at No. 23, Ajileye St., Bariga area of Lagos State, with others now at large at 3:30a.m.

The prosecutor said Okimiji, with other accomplice­s, trespassed into of Mr Joseph complainan­t.

They were alleged to have damaged his door and robbed him of four phones, jewelry, a plasma TV set and N110,000.

He added that the complainan­t raised an alarm which alerted security guards.

The guards were said to have apprehende­d the accused who the house Akeju, the had in his possession some cutlasses and an iron cutter, while his accomplice­s escaped.

The prosecutor said the offences contravene­d sections 299, 297 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The plea of the accused was not taken.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 5. (NAN)
