Dogara, Monguno, Jibrin among reps with unopposed tickets

- By Musa Abdullahi Krishi & Ozibo Ozibo

Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and Rep Mohammed Tahir Monguno are among the few members of the House that got unopposed return tickets from their parties, Daily Trust can report.

The duo, both of whom are from the north eastern states of Bauchi and Borno, have been in the House since 2007, and would slug it out for another term with candidates from other parties.

Also, an erstwhile chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, emerged unopposed for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State on APC platform.

While Dogara got the PDP ticket for Bogoro/ Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal Constituency unopposed, Monguno got his on the platform of APC for the Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal Constituency.

Dogara was affirmed as the sole candidate for the seat by 325 delegates, while Monguno, who chaired the House Committee on Agricultural Production and Services, also got the nod of 1,080 delegates from his constituency to clinch the ticket. It was gathered that other lawmakers that got return tickets from their parties were Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), Tajudeen Obasa (PDP, Lagos) and Segun Odebunbi (APC, Oyo), all of whom will be returning to the Green Chamber for their second term.

This happened despite the fact that the two political parties that they contested under did not give members of the House automatic tickets.
