Ekiti Muslim youth fault Fayemi’s appointments
The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, (NACOMYO), Ekiti State chapter, has picked holes in the first appointments announced by Governor KayodeFayemi.
The organization, staged a protest yesterday at the Central Mosque in Ado Ekiti, alleging that the appointments were lopsided andmarginalised the Muslim community in the state.
The coordinator of NACOMYO in the state, TajudeenOlutope Ahmed, said excluding Muslim from the first three appointments announced by the governor was “shocking and highly disturbing to all Muslim in the state.”
The governor had on Tuesday announced Mr. AbiodunOyebanji as Secretary to the State Government; Mr. BiodunOmoleye as Chief of Staff and YinkaOyebode as Chief Press Secretary.
The Muslim youths displayed placards with different inscriptions such as “Governor, deputy governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and Chief Press Secretary, no Muslim so far”, “Recent appointment is a dangerous signal to Muslims in Ekiti state”, “Fayemi’s core appointments a Christianized agenda in Ekiti state”, “JKF first appointment, a big blow to the Muslims in our dear state.”
Olutope said Muslims in the state constituted about 40 percent of the population.
“The exclusion of Muslims from the entire membership of the core principal officers of this administration is therefore worrisome, unjust, condemnable and unacceptable. We see it as a calculated attempt to exclude Muslims from the fundamental aspect of decision making process in Ekiti State.
“We also call on the governor to ensure inclusion of Muslims in all appointments to be made in future at both state and local government levels” saying this will pave the way for the reign of justice, equity and peace in the state,” he stated.
