Five arrested for attacking passersby with machetes

Five suspected street urchins are currently behind bars at the Command Headquarte­rs, Ikeja, for allegedly attacking passersby with machetes.

Police said the hoodlums went out around Oshodi community attacking people and collecting their valuables.

Those arrested were Emmanuel Ebere, a.k.a Marceto, 25; Timilehi Onijaka, 20, Rasaq Wasiu, 23, Yakubu, 22, and Edesewehen, 21.

Lagos State Police Commission­er, Imohimi Edgal who confirmed the arrest said the incident occurred on October 11, 2018.

Edgal said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Akinpelu Police Station, SP Oladimeji Sunday got an informatio­n that five machete wielding hoodlums were seen attacking innocent citizens and destroying properties at Oshodi.

He said that based on the strength of the informatio­n the DPO quickly mobilized his men and headed to the scene.

According.to him, on arrival at the scene, the DPO and his men saw the hoodlums destroying properties as well as snatching bags from victims.

He said items recovered from the suspects included bags, phones, wristwatch­es and cash, adding that efforts were on to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

He said that they would all be charged to court as soon as investigat­ion was concluded.
