- From Peter Moses, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 23-year old man, Taiwo Olatokunbo for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old Christian William to death in Ijebu-Ode.

The victim was reportedly stabbed with broken bottle while intervening in a fight which ensued after a hot argument over a N200 beer between the suspect and one Temitope Adedayo who runs a beer parlour at No. 4 Ijagun Road, Ijebu-Ode.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect was, however, arrested on Saturday following a distress call received by the police at Igbeba Division from the beer parlour operator.

The complainant was quoted to have reported that the suspect came to buy a bottle of beer worth N200 but refused to pay.

According to her, the suspect’s refusal to pay for the beer led to an argument, a development which made the victim intervene.

The victim’s intervention was said to have infuriated the suspect who broke a bottle and stabbed the victim at the right elbow joint.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement on Sunday said the victim was quickly rushed to State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for medical attention, but he died.

He disclosed that the suspect was arrested at the scene of the crime.
