2019: INEC trains officials on election monitoring
The Independent National Electoral Commission, with a support from the European Centre for Electoral Support, has organized a three-day trainingworkshop for its officers on election monitoring and support in Kano.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. RiskuwaShehu, yesterday said the training was for officers from all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.
“There are quite a number of activities in our election project calendar and each activity has a timeline which must be followed.So, we want every officer that is involved in the election process to be well acquainted with the procedures, activities and the timeline specified. And such activity must be monitored and implemented within the stipulated time,” he said.
Chairman, Panning, Monitoring and Strategy Committee of INEC, Dr Mohammed Lecky, represented by the Acting Director General of the INEC Electoral Institute, DrSa’ad Umar Idris, said the Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) training wasgeared towards making the 2019 general elections far better and more effectively organized than previous ones
The ECES representative, Fabien Marie, said the centrerecognised the complex nature of elections in Nigeria, adding however that “We all have to be confident and provide our assistance to the electoral empire. We know how complex and huge the task is in Nigeria especially going by the sheer size of its population”.
