Senatorial aspirant drags PDP to court
A senatorial aspirant under the PDP in Gombe State, Barrister Zubairu Umar, has dragged the party to court for “illegally” disqualifying him from the party’s Senate primary election.
In a suit filed at the state High Court against the state chapter of the party, Barrister Umar said he purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms to vie for Gombe-North senatorial seat ticket but was disqualified by the party without any justifiable reason.
A counsel to the aspirant, Barr Ibrahim Mohammed Attahir, told the court that his client presented himself before the screening committee of the party with all the required documents, but the party refused to clear him and failed to give any reason.
However, counsel to the PDP, Barr Habu Abdu, said Zubairu was disqualified by the party from participating in the primary election because he (Zubairu) withdrew from partisan politics since 2017.
Barrister Abdu informed that the complainant was a member of the PDP from 2003 until his withdrawal from partisan politics in 2017, adding that he returned to contest for the primary election without following the party’s rules and regulations.
Our correspondent reports that the presiding judge, Justice Abdulhamid Muhammed Yakubu, adjourned the case to November 9 for continuation of hearing.
