SMEs key to unlocking Nigeria’s wealth – Jumia COO

- By Opeyemi Kehinde, Lagos

The Chief Commercial Officer of Jumia Nigeria, Mr. Shobit Pandey, has described Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as key to unlocking the country’s wealth.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust in Lagos yesterday, he said “we believe in the development and growth of small and medium businesses, as they are the keys to unlocking Nigeria’s wealth, and the ingredients that the economy needs to flourish.”

He said that was the reason Jumia Nigeria is offering online shoppers five Black Fridays all through the month of November to enable them patronise its over 30,000 vendors whose products and services would be hosted on all its platforms from Friday, November 2 (12.01am) through November 30, 2018.

“As a company, we use Black Friday to promote Nigerian entrepreneurs who are selling on our platform. It’s also an opportunity for those who are yet to list their products, or those who are not getting enough returns from their businesses on other e-commerce platforms.

“This year, we have five times the number of vendors or entrepreneurs who are offering their merchandise to millions of Jumia customers at the best rates – up to 80 percent discounts.

He expressed optimism that SMEs would no doubt be the beneficiaries of the Black Fridays’ sales as they offer consumers unique quality products.
