Former Lagos speaker docked over murder of DSP

The police in Lagos have arraigned a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Jokotola Pelumi, for allegedly receiving into his home one Adekunle Dabiri, who was alleged to have murdered a Deputy Superinten­dent of Police.

Pelumi was brought along with six other suspects before an Ebute Meta chief magistrate court on a charge of receiving a murder suspect and also aiding his escape.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was released on bail in the sum of N1 million by Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo, who directed him to also produce two “responsibl­e” sureties in the like sum.

Adedayo also said one of the sureties should be a member of the State House of Assembly and adjourned the case until November 26 for mention.

The six other men were charged with the murder of Deputy Superinten­dent of Police Akindele Akingboju.

The prosecutio­n said the accused persons conspired among themselves to murder Akingboju of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State police command on Saturday October 27, 2018.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the remand of the accused persons at the Ikoyi Prison pending legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutio­ns.

She adjourned the case 26, 2018 for mention. till November
