Suspected assassins invaded my house — Ekweremadu
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said suspected assassins invaded his house in an attempt to kill him.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate yesterday, Ekweremadu said the suspected assassins beat his house security at his Apo residence and gained entrance into the main building in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said it took the intervention of God that none of his family members was hurt even as one of the suspected assassins was held by his security men and later handed over to the police.
He said the matter was being investigated by the police hence he would prefer senators not to contribute on the matter.
Ekweremadu came under of personal explanation, in matter which senators were not allowed to contribute to the matter under the Senate rules.
He said immediately the incident happened, he made several attempts to reach the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris via telephone but that the IGP’s number was switched off.
“I tried reaching the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Apo Station. We didn’t see him. But at about 5.am, he sent his Second-in-Command who came and we showed him what happened,” he said
He lamented that the incident was a pointer to “the fact that people are not safe in this country.”
Senate President Bukola Saraki directed the committee on police affairs to liaise with the police to know why they did not respond on time and get back to the Senate leadership that same yesterday.
