PDP demands investigation into attack on Ekweremadu
The PDP has called for investigation into another attempt on the life of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who was attacked yesterday alongside members of his family by assailants, at his official residence in Abuja.
The PDP in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the latest attack meant certain forces who had been hostile to Ekweremadu’s political standing were still bent on silencing him at all cost.
“The PDP draws the attention of Nigerians to the series of uninvestigated security threats around the person of Senator Ekweremadu. Nigerians could recall that on November 17, 2015, a similar attempt was made on Senator Ekweremadu’s life by some assailants on his way to work.
“Though that attack was reported to the authorities, there have been no investigations by the security agencies, no arrests have been made and no culprit has been brought to book,” the statement said.
Similarly, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in a statement yesterday by its spokesman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said “the opposition wish to state it loud and clear that the president and his tactless Inspector general of Police have displayed high level of incompetence to deal with the growing security challenges in the country…The president should immediately sack the incompetent inspector general and appoint a gallant and committed officer of the police that will help check the growing internal insecurity in the country,” the CUPP said.
