Pillars discard open screening for new players

018 Aiteo Federation Cup runners up, Kano Pillars Football Club have discarded open screening for new players as the team get set to resume for training on Thursday at the Sani Abacha stadium.

Speaking to Daily Trust on phone yesterday, the Media Officer of the club, Malam Idris Malikawa said unlike in the past when players were invited to come and engage in open screening for places in the team, only few players would be invited to come and join the former NPFL champions.

He also said even as the team will resume on Thursday, the fate of the team’s technical crew is still hanging as the management is yet to decide, if their contracts should be renewed.

He said the coaches signed only one year contract so as the season has ended, it is left for the management to either ask them to continue in their respective positions or allow them to look elsewhere for work.

“We are resuming on Thursday. Already, more than one quarter of the players are contacted to resume with the team.

“Those who have not received any call from either the Team Manager or secretary of the club do not have spaces in the team again.

“Apart from that we are not going to carry out open screening of new players. That was the practice in the past but this time around, we are going to invite only players we are likely going to sign.

“This is a more tardy approach as we don’t want to bring unnecessary pressure on the technical crew,” he said.
