Sokoto APC, N’West vice chair differ over suspension

- By Hamza Idris & Abubakar Auwal, Sokoto

The Sokoto State chapter of the APC has allegedly expelled the North West National Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, over alleged anti-party posturing.

Documents seen by Daily Trust showed that Abdulkadir was first recommended for expulsion by APC leaders in his Magajin Gari A Ward in Sokoto North Local Government Area when he allegedly refused to appear before a disciplinary committee to respond to some issues raised in a petition.

One Naibi Umar Abubakar who hails from the same ward with Abdulkadir had written a petition against the North West vice chairman over alleged anti-party activities, dishonest practices and absenteeism.

However, Abdulkadir who questioned the legitimacy of those who summoned him, told Daily Trust yesterday that the APC constitution stipulated that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had the power to suspend a national officer.

Abdulkadir said those who wanted to remove him failed to go through the right channel because those who purportedly removed him were unknown.

In a separate response to Abdulkadir, Nasiru Abubakar UDU and Dan Labarani Helele, who said they were the authentic chairman and secretary of the party in Magajin Gari A ward, said there was no any petition against the North West vice chairman.

The Sokoto State APC, in a letter to the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, dated November 2, also ratified the expulsion of Abdulkadir after it received a recommendation from the Sokoto North office of the party.

The letter of expulsion was signed by the Chairman, Isah Sadiq Achida, who made reference to the resolution of the 40-member executive of the party.

Among other things, the Sokoto APC considered the report of the disciplinary committee which found Abdulkadir guilty of refusing to convene zonal meeting to assess fortunes of the party ahead of 2019; ridiculed and made derogatory comments on the party; refused to participate in various primaries held in the state even though he is a delegate and refusing to sit with Sokoto State delegates during the special convention of the APC where President Muhammadu Buhari was affirmed as the candidate of the party.

They also accused him of maintaining close relationship with Gov. Aminu Tambuwal who defected to PDP; refusing to recognise ex- Gov. Aliyu Wamakko and APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Ahmad Aliyu, as leaders of the party and his failure to resign as board Chairman of the Sokoto State University.

Reacting, Abdulkadir said he had sent a response to the disciplinary committee; and also told Daily Trust that all the claims they made were not true.

He said the letter of invitation was signed by nameless persons purported to be chairman and secretary in his ward, adding that the invitation had a doubtful origin.
