Saraki reshuffles c’ttees, appoints Ndume chair

- By Musa Abdullahi Krishi

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, yesterday, reshuffled the leadership of four committees of the Senate.

Saraki, while announcing the development at the end of plenary, said a former Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno), will now head the committee on establishment.

Ndume was at a time the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters until his suspension last year when Sen. Suleiman Nazif Gamawa (PDP, Bauchi) was appointed to take over the committee.

Also, Sen. Abu Ibrahim (APC, Katsina) has been moved from the Committee on Police Affairs to head the Committee on Labour.

It was learnt that Sen Abu Ibrahim was removed as the chairman of police affairs committee due to alleged lack of concern, interest and effectiveness on issues between senators and the police among others. Attempts to get the senator’s reaction failed as he did not pick his calls and didn’t reply to a text message sent to him.

Sen. Tijjani (APC, Zamfara) Committee on Yahaya Kaura now heads the Police Affairs, while Lawal Yahaya Gumau (APC, Bauchi) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Federal Character.

While Kaura was until yesterday the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Gumau was the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Poverty Alleviation.

Our correspondent reports that this is the second time Gumau would be moved from one committee to another. He was initially appointed to head the poverty alleviation committee until Saraki removed him to be deputy to Sen. Danjuma La’ah (PDP, Kaduna).
