Ebonyi has 6 rice mills, 40 tractors to boost agriculture - Umahi
The Ebonyi State government, yesterday, disclosed that three new mills of three metric tonnes per hour capacity have been installed across the three zones in the state in addition to the existing three mills to increase the Ebonyi Rice World production which is said to be in high demand across the country.
In his address at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, the state governor, Engr David Umahi, said 40 tractors of 75hp and 65hp with full complement of their implements were procured; 30 gigantic threshers and tillers were purchased; and 2,000 planters were distributed to farmers.
Aside rice production, he said the government has embarked on policies and programmes geared towards attracting investments, eliminating unemployment, hunger, insecurity, diseases and illiteracy, among others.
In addition, the governor said professionalism, mechanisation and commercialisation have been the strategy used to develop the state agricultural sector.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs Ugo Nnachi, further stated that the state has reached an agreement with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to establish a model skill development centre to equip youths with entrepreneurial capability to make them employers of labour.
