FCT Yoruba chiefs seek recognitio­n

Yoruba chiefs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) want to be recognised by the Minister of the territory, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello.

The paramount chief of the Yoruba in the FCT, Oba Olusegun Salau, called on the minister to take the Yoruba traditiona­l rulers along in the scheme of things in the territory.

Oba Salau, who made the call in an interview with newsmen at the occasion of the Yoruba Day celebratio­n in Gwagwalada, also urged the minister to maintain cordial relationsh­ip with the Yoruba leaders.

He pleaded with Yoruba residents in the FCT and Nigeria at large to remain united for the progress of the Yoruba community, noting that the first Yoruba Day was celebrated at Garki, Area 10, in 1992.

He also used the occasion to advise the Yoruba to come out en masse for the 2019 general elections to vote candidates of their choice.

Also speaking, the Otunba of the Yoruba in the FCT, Chief (Dr.) Wasiu Tunwase, expressed happiness that the Yoruba were united and of one accord in the territory.

Chief Tunwase described the Yoruba as peace-loving people and urged them to continue to maintain peaceful coexistenc­e in their respective communitie­s.

He appealed to the FCT minister to accord priority attention to Yoruba associatio­ns in Abuja in the interest of peace.

On his part, the appointed Chief of Yoruba in Gwagwalada, Oba Muraina Boladale, called on his people to embrace one another irrespecti­ve of religious inclinatio­n.
