Anguwan Rogo, Tudun Wada youths call for speedy completion of roads
Youths in Tudun Wada and Anguwan Rogo communities in Jos North local government area of Plateau State have commended Governor Simon Bako Lalong for mobilising contractors back to site but urged the governor to ensure speedy completion of the road projects.
The contractors had earlier left the project sites a few months after they scraped off the road and coated construction sand.
However, a few weeks ago, Governor Lalong mobilised them back to site and assured that the projects would be completed and inaugurated before May next year.
Ibrahim Auwal from Anguwan Rogo yesterday told Daily Trust that the people from the community had been angry when the contractors abandoned site because the sand earlier coated on the road was posing health challenges to them especially those suffering from asthma.
“There was dust everywhere when the contractor left the site and those with asthma suffered the most.
Again, during the rainy season, the entire area became muddy and many people had to look for alternative routes into Anguwan Rogo. But we are happy the governor has asked them to return to site and we hope they will not abandon the work half way,” said Auwal.
The Youth leader of Tudun Wada, Kefas Mwanret Dagin, who re-echoed Auwal’s concerns urged the state government to ensure that the contractors take their work seriously adding that, “we learnt that the contractors were only paid part of the money which is probably why the work is slow.”
On his part, a barber, who operates in the area, Philiph Isaac, said though the community was grateful for the intervention by government, there was need to constantly mobilise the contractors saying the slow pace of the work was a hindrance to his business.
Tudun Wada, Anguwan Rogo together with Tina, Dutse uku and Chanyap are some of the communities with poor road networks having suffered years of neglect by previous administrations.
Governor Lalong had on assumption office promised to remedy the situation which led to the awarding of a N5billion road project in the neglected communities.
Daily Trust reports that the projects include the N1.5 billion road networks from Anguwan Rogo
to Ali Kazaure awarded to Letokem Nig Ltd while Jolex Nig Ltd, a N1.8 billion contract for the construction of road networks from Tudun Wada to Mado village while China’s Chinazhonghao was awarded a N1.7 billion contract for the construction of roads around Dutse Uku, Chanyap and Tina.
