because the demand increases. “We experience the boom during the dry season”, he said.

The scrap dealers are not unaware of this. They increase their price per a kilogramme to N70 during the cessation of rain and further shoot it up to N100 around January and February when the season intensifies. But the price is sure to crash to between N50 and even N30 at the peak of rainy season with the consequent low patronage from the end users.

Evans said after the scraps were purchased, they would be cut into small sizes, washed and cleaned to remove dirt before separating them into injection and blowing material (types of plastic materials).

“It is necessary to wash the scraps to prevent them from blocking the machines and stalling the production process,” he explained.

He said the injection material was used to make household material such as plastic basins, buckets, hangers, plates and spoons among others, while the blowing material was used to produce plastic jerry cans and plastic cans for packaging food and drinks.

He said there is price difference according to the colour of the scrap items which the scrap the dealers are not aware of.

“The scrap dealers sell the lot together but we separate them according to colour and materials themselves. The white scrap sells higher because it can be used to produce any colour of product. That is where we make more money”, he explained.

After the process of separating injection and blowing material, the scraps would be inserted into a crushing machine and bagged in that order.
