Counter-insurgency: Army begins artillery exercise
The Nigerian Army Corp of Artillery has commenced the 5th edition of the annual exercise of the Vulcan Glow to enhance the fight against insurgency in the country.
The exercise, which began yesterday with the inspection of the site at Gindin Dutse in Kajuru, a community in Kaduna State, is expected to end on November 17.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the inspection, the commander Nigerian Army Corp of Artillery, Major-General Abubakar Tarfa, said the participating brigades were from Minna, Akure, Bauchi, Owerri and Ogun State.
According to him, exercise Vulcan Glow IV is an annual artillery exercise conducted towards the end of the year after the formations and units have done their various exercise.
"We are concentrating all the art, formations in order to harmonize all the training on information, planing , employment and deployment of artillery in all phases of ware, including counter insurgency operations", Tarfa said.
On how the operation would strengthen war against insurgency, he said part of the training was on conventional war and counterinsurgency operation to ensure soldiers and officers were trained to support all the fight against terrorism in the northeast and other parts of the country.
He added: "At the end of this exercise, we expect better performance by the personnel operations when they are deployed for operation within and outside the country. The exercise is also a competition among the formations and units. It is expected they will complete among themselves and exceptional brigade will go home with trophy".
