Borno: PDP group insists on Wakil, Kachallah for governor, senator
The PDP in Borno State will go into the 2019 elections divided unless its original governorship and Borno Central senatorial candidates are given back their mandate, the Yerwa-Oodua PDP support group has warned.
The group, comprising hundreds of PDP members from Borno State resident in South Western states of Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo, announced this in a statement yesterday.
Chairman of the group, Bakura Goni Makinta and his Secretary, Mustapha Mustapha, said unless the INEC adopts the former Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil as PDP governorship candidate and Bukar Kachallah, a former Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly as candidate for Borno Central Senatorial election, the party will lose in the general elections.
They said “whereas some PDP members were making reference to 2011 in which an incumbent governor lost the Borno Central senatorial election to PDP, they ignore the fact that back in 2011, the PDP had the advantage of Mohammed Goni as its governorship candidate whose popularity influenced outcomes of the National Assembly elections.
“Ahead of the 2019 general election, the PDP in Borno State does not have valid candidates, particularly for the governorship and Borno Central Senatorial election until the ongoing court cases between the two factions of the party are determined in weeks to come,” the group said.
The group leaders said they were optimistic that very soon the court will reaffirm its earlier judgement and give an order to INEC to uphold the names of Alhaji Wakil and Kachallah as the governorship and senatorial candidate of the party.
