- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

A Kano State High Court has fixed November 21, 2018 for hearing of the originating summon of a suit filed before it by a group of lawyers challenging the legality of Kano State House of Assembly investigation into the bribery allegation against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

A group of constitutional lawyers, Lawyers for the Sustainable Democracy of Nigeri, filed a case before Justice Ahmed T.Badamasi challenging the constitutionality of the seven-man committee set up by the assembly to investigate the matter.

When the case came up yesterday for ruling on an injunction that restrained the assembly and Honorable Baffa Babba Danagundi, the 1st and 2nd respondents in the case from taking further actions in investigation of bribery allegation against governor Ganduje, counsel to the plaintiff, Nuraini Jimo, reminded the court that the injunction had restrained the 1st and 2nd respondents by themselves, their agents, officials or any other persons whosoever to invite anybody, enquiry, investigate, questioning, examining, making any further press release, plying any further video clips, investigating or further proceeding with the or anybody allegation against governor Ganduje.

Jimo, who was represented by Barrister Khalid Abdulhafiz, also urged the court to discountenance of the 18-paragraph counter affidavit submitted to it by counsel to the 1st and 2nd respondent, Barrister

Muhammad Sa’idu Waziri for not following due processes in filing it.

An online newspaper, Daily Nigeria, had released a video clip purporting Ganduje as receiving bribe in dollars from an unidentified contractor.
