2019: CSOs commend NSCDC for declaring one-week prayer
A coalition of civil society groups; Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI), Peace and Anti-Corruption Advocacy (PAC) and Transparency Network Centre (TNC); yesterday lauded the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for declaring a one-week fasting and prayer, starting on December 13, for peaceful 2019 general elections.
In a joint statement, the Executive Secretary, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele of CWAI; National Coordinator of PAC, James Okoronkwo and Farouk Umar, National Coordinator of TNC; hailed the “nationalistic disposition” of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Abdullahu Gana Muhammadu, towards the peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections.
“As part of the strategy towards the ember month and yuletide period, the CG had a strategic meeting with State Commandants from the 36 states of the federation including the capital FCT on the way forward to perfect and re-strategies their security apparatus in order to check incessant vandalism of the nation’s critical national assets by criminals across the country. It is believed the world over that criminals and hoodlums do strike at period like this especially when people go about their businesses celebrating the reason for the season,” they stated.
They called on all Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement of persons or group of people whose activities are capable of derailing the muchneeded peace and national security of the country.
They also enjoined the citizens to be at alert and fully cooperate with all the security agencies, saying “the security of lives and property cannot be left alone in the hands of the agencies, but a collective responsibility of all and sundry.”
