3 Brigade wins army 10km combat race

The 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano has emerged winner of the 1 Division, Nigerian Army Kaduna Inter Brigade 10km combat race and 21 km Half Marathon.

The race, Daily Trust gathered, is aimed at improving the mental fitness of it personal.

A total of 120 personnel participat­ing in the sporting activity were drawn from three brigades under 1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna including 31 Artillery Brigade Mina, 1Division Garrison brigade Kaduna, and Three Brigade Kano.

Speaking at the three-day event holding at Ribadu cantoment, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, General Officer Commanding, (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major-General Mohammed Mohammed, said combat race was an integral part of training in the Army.

Mohammed said the exercise was part of the annual Nigerian Army Sports Festival, and also in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of having a profession­ally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constituti­onal role.

He said the army would not relent towards improving the combat skills of its personnel so as to face all forms of challenges.

Also speaking, Major-General Shehu Abdulqadir (rtd) who was the special guest of honour said: “The race has proved that the Nigerian Army is determined and capable of safeguardi­ng the territoria­l integrity of the country, and urged the army to sustain offensive operations.”
