Buhari receives Electoral Act for assent

President Muhammadu Buhari has received the latest version of the amendments made to the 2010 Electoral Act by the National Assembly for assent.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang told State House reporters yesterday that the bill was transmitte­d to the President last week.

Daily Trust reports both chambers of National Assembly last month passed that the had the amendment made to the Electoral Act, approving the use of card reader for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

The fresh amendment was as a result of certain observatio­ns made by President Buhari in the earlier bill passed and transmitte­d to him by both chambers of the federal legislatur­e.

Senator Ita Enang “said the electoral amendment bill passed by the National Assembly has been transmitte­d to Mr. President, I think it was on the 7th or 8th of November. So the electoral amendment bill is with us.”

Asked when the bill would be assented to by the president, he said: “The bill has just come to Mr. President and he is allowed by law to look at the content of every law and of all the bills that I have mentioned, you can look at the time that they came and the time it took for the work to be done on the law. Therefore Mr. President is cautious of the issues surroundin­g it and all circumstan­ces are given the required attention.”
