Reps by-election to hold in Bauchi, Kwara tomorrow

The ruling APC and the opposition PDP will slug it out in the by-election to fill the vacant Toro Federal Constituen­cy seat in Bauchi State.

The by-election is slated for tomorrow and will take place in 11 wards and over 400 polling units.

Toro has over 193,000 registered voters that are expected to participat­e in the by-election; even as the APC and PDP were the only parties that presented candidates for the by-election.

Comrade Nuhu Yusuf is the candidate of the APC, while Comrade Shehu Umar Buba is the candidate of the PDP.

Speaking during the collection of sensitive materials by INEC staff at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Bauchi, the INEC Zonal National Commission­er in charge of Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe states, Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo, said INEC staff were given the EC8 series of sensitive materials in the presence of other stakeholde­rs to ensure credibilit­y and transparen­cy in the process.

Meanwhile, INEC, yesterday, distribute­d sensitive election materials in Kwara State for tomorrow’s byelection for Irepodun/ Oke Ero/Isin/Ekiti Federal Constituen­cy.

The Resident Electoral Commission­er in the state, Garba Attahiru Madami, while speaking after the distributi­on of the materials at the CBN, Ilorin branch, said 170, 918 ballot papers and other electoral materials were distribute­d to all the four local government councils where the by-election would be conducted.

Madami said 1,855 electoral officers would be involved in the election. National Commission­er in charge of Kwara, Kogi and Nasarawa, Malam Muhammed Haruna, agents of APC, PDP, PPN, UPN and LP, as well as RECs of Imo and Lagos.

Madami also debunked allegation that INEC distribute­d the materials in the night and commended all the five party agents who witnessed the distributi­on during the day.
