Kwara health workers begin warning strike today
The Kwara State chapter of the Medical and Health workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), in collaboration with the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), will commence a three-day warning strike today.
This was disclosed in a statement jointly signed yesterday by the state chairman of NANNM, Joseph Adekanye and that of MHWUN, Muritala Olayinka Saheed.
The statement reads: “Arising from the congress meeting of Coalition of Health Sector Union (COHESU) held on Friday 16th, November, 2018 following the inability of the kwara state government to pay 10 percent increase on the existing 50 percent consolidated health structure (CONHESS) to our members in the local government level the congress resolved to embarked on three days warning strike effective from Monday midnight.
“This is also to address gross shortage of human resources as well as non provision of working tools in the health facilities across the state.”
The statement said the congress had written series of letters, given a 14-day ultimatum and added another seven days which expired on November 9 without any response from the state government.
Responding, the Commissioner for Health, Usman Kolo Rifun, said he was yet to receive an official statement on the warning strike.
