Emir threatens to sack village, ward heads over low school enrolment

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk has threatened to sack any village or ward head of any community where there is low enrollment of pupils in primary schools.

He equally warned parents against resisting to enrol their children in schools adding that, such parents risked being sanctioned.

Arewa Trust reports that the emir issued the warning during his ongoing tour of local government areas in the emirate.

The tour is aimed at increasing awareness and ensure massive enrolment of children in both western and Islamic schools.

During the visit the emir interacted with Education secretarie­s, ward and village heads as well as parents.

He said he was committed to ensuring that every child in the emirate was educated.

He recalled a recent meeting of traditiona­l rulers from northern part of the country was told that the region had the lowest school enrolment figures in the country.

“The emirs were shown that the southern part is far ahead.’’

He called on the federal government to involve traditiona­l rulers in the enlightenm­ent campaign to get parents to enrol their children in schools.

The emir has so far visited Maiadua, Sandamu, Zango and Baure local government areas with the grand finale slated for Daura later this week.
