Nigerian footballer in Norway sponsors football competition in Kafanchan
Ten youth football clubs from within Kafanchan metropolis and environs are participating in the ongoing Ibrahim Lali Super Ten, Peace and Unity Soccer Championship.
The tournament is being sponsored by Ibrahim Shu’aibu, a Nigerian playing with Norwegian Premier League side, FC Haugesund.
The coordinator of the tournament, Alhaji Baballiya Musa said the competition was aimed at developing sport amongst youth as well as strengthening peace and unity in the communities.
Musa, who spoke with Arewa Trust at Kafanchan Old Township Stadium, said the competition had entered quarter-final stage.
He said clubs rtaking part were deliberately choosen to reflect the multi-cultural setting of the community.
All the competing the clubs were registered for free and also offered free set of jersey worth N50, 000 each.
“The next edition will involve team from across the twelve wards of Jema’a Local Government and the 2020 edition will cover all the eight local government areas in Southern Kaduna,” Musa said.
Also speaking with Arewa Trust,a former defender with J.C.R Riders FC, Jos, Aminu Ibrahim, said the league had helped in stabilising the area during the recent crises that engulfed the state.
He, therefore, called on the security agencies to engage the youth in the area by creating similar competitions.
“It will help in unifying the youths of the area,” he concluded.
Lali had in an earlier interview with Arewa Trust said that he was sponsoring the competition as a way of giving back to the soceity.
