We have a very strong case against Diezani — Magu

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr Ibrahim Magu has said that the commission has “a very, very strong case” against former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke who is currently in exile in the United Kingdom.

In an interview with Daily Trust in London, Magu said the former minister must be extradited to Nigeria to face trial on various corruption cases against her, lamenting that her investigation by UK law enforcement agencies had taken too long.

“We have concluded investigations on our part, so they should extradite her and repatriate all the money that has been recovered and all the properties so that we will take legal action against her,” he said.

Magu said demand for Mrs AlisonMadueke’s extradition was part of the reason for his trip to the UK.

On anti-graft efforts, he said the EFCC had done enough to fulfil one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cardinal promises to Nigerians, which is the fight against corruption.

“The President has given us the free hand to do what we are doing. That is why we have very fantastic results in the fight against corruption. Everybody knows we are fighting corruption, it’s a matter of fact,” he said.

On what the EFCC was doing on allegations of bribe-taking by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Magu said he wouldn’t like to comment because “the matter is in court”, adding: “I don’t have to advertise what we are doing on the pages on newspapers”.
