- From Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola

Gunmen Saturday killed medical doctor, Mwajim Malgwi and his wife on the family’s farm located on the outskirts of Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

Malgwi, the proprietor of Polyclinic Hospital in Yola, was reportedly attacked on his farm around Boggare village near Ngurore in Yola a South Local Government area after a meeting with farm workers.

An associate of the late doctor, Ibrahim Welye, who disclosed the incident, could not give further details on the attack, but a source told Daily Trust that armed men in a tricycle shot the couple at close range, killing them.

The spokesman of the state police command, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the attack, saying no arrest had been made yet; while the police were still investigating the incident.

Dr Malgwi who was in his 70’s had retired from the civil service as permanent secretary and served as commissioner for health between 1988 and 1989 before returning to private practice at the Freedom Polyclinic.

Residents interviewed by Daily Trust condemned the attack as barbaric, calling on the security agencies to live up to their responsibility of protecting lives and property of citizens.

Dodo Muhammad, a resident, said he was shocked by the news of the attack on Malgwi whom he described as a compassionate fellow who contributed a lot to the community.
