Oyetola sworn in as Osun gov, pledges prompt payment of salaries
Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola was, in Osogbo, yesterday sworn in as new governor of Osun State.
Oyetola of the All Congress, who won the governorship election in succeed Rauf Aregbesola.
The new governor assured the workers in the state that their salaries would be paid promptly by his administration.
Oyetola said: “We will ensure that workers’ salaries are paid promptly bearing in mind the financial inflow of the state. We shall resolutely defend, extend and prioritise the welfare of workers and pensioners.”
He also promised to reposition the economy of the state, adding that Progressives September the state, his administration would organise an economic summit within the first quarter of his first year in office.
He said the summit would dissect and recommend strategies which would drive meaningful youth employment, enhance food security, agricultural development, activate mining prospects and boost tourism potentials of this state.
“We will showcase Osun as a strategic location for industrialisation. We are convinced that the peaceful atmosphere, a welcoming people, low crime rate, communal peace and the relative stability of electricity supply (particularly in the capital city) will attract local and foreign investors.”
Oyetola also promised to improve on the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state without bringing additional burden to the people.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, assured that Oyetola would continue from where Aregbesola stopped.
The president said Oyetola’s administration would attract growth and development to the state.
APC national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, expressed confidence that Buhari would win the 2019 presidential election.
Tinubu said Nigeria could not afford to vote the People’s Democratic Party and warned that any attempt to do so would lead to retrogression.
