- By Victoria Onehi

A total of 110 youths in the FCT have been trained in photography by the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) in collaboration with the Unabashed Foundation.

The Managing Director of AEA, Mal. Muhammed Tukur Arabi, who was represented at the closing ceremony by the Principal Manager, Mr Chudi Ezerigwe, said the training was based on the FCT administration’s desire to build capacity of the residents of Abuja to start and successfully run their businesses.

“The training programme covered two important aspects that guarantee a successful business, namely entrepreneurial course and a skill acquisition course in photography. And the FCT administration has proactively approved the distribution of starter packs in the form of photography equipment (camera) for the best 10 participants.”

One of the participants, Oluwasegun Ogunleye, said it was a long week filled with knowledge on different genres of photography; from studio photography to wedding photography, documentary photography, photo-journalism to the basic rules of lighting.

“Before now, I would take a photograph without considering the rudiments of photograph but now, I have the knowledge. The future is for me to take over and I have been given equipment now to better facilitate that,” he said.

Another participant, Sa’a Maccido, said the intensive training on photograph has taught her all the basic things she needs to know as a photographer. “I am so glad I am part of this and I am glad I won a camera. I see myself as one of the top photographers in Nigeria in the near future.”

The founder of Unabashed Africa, Bayo Omoboriowo, while speaking about their role in the training said, “We were able to bring in professional photographers and cinematographers to train these 110 young people and we were able to share our unique stories.

“They have been challenged to go and express themselves in the area of photography,” he stated.
