Kano bribe videos: A blessing in disguise?

-

It is often said that ‘when two Elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers’. But as far as the ongoing bribe scandal rocking the political landscape of Kano is concerned, that statement may not hold water. Come to think of it, contrary to what many Nigerians are saying or have said, the unfortunate issue of the bribe videos have become so much a blessing in disguise for the hapless and ordinary citizens of Kano, taking into accounts many positive things that have so far accrued to the state since the release of the first episode!!

Indeed, many discerning observers are both surprised and overwhelmed by the impact the videos have so far made on the new hyperactive governance unfolding in the ancient city of Kano, in which the Governor seem to have woken up from his deep slumber (Likimo) ever since the issue come into the public limelight. In fact, the speed with which the state is being governed today calls for an in-depth analysis and academic research by academicians and all other knowledge seekers in order to add to the body of knowledge?

Many capital projects that have long being neglected due to what was earlier attributed to be paucity of funds have been reactivated. And many new contracts like the rehabilitations of 31 dilapidated roads in the metropolis, and construction of a new fly-over at K/Mata to Singer Market have been awarded. That Kano is better today and reaping bountifully from the unfortunate scandal is truly overstating the obvious.

Kano pensioners’ are not left out of the new phenomenon too. As I write, about 6,000 senior citizens are smiling to the banks and many local contractors that were hitherto grumbling over non-payment of completed work are also smiling to the banks in addition to many others that have since returned to the constructions site. So like I said earlier, this unfortunate exposure has indeed turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the ordinary people of Kano!

Such supersonic speed in the approach to governance by Ganduje was what Kanawas’ and Nigerians had hope and wished to see, especially given his hands-on experience, knowledge and massive support of the people.

So, going forward, i will advise that for Kano to maximally benefits from the sordid situation, it is imperative for more of such videos to be release; perhaps Kano might continue to get the very best out of her own share of the federation’s account allocations and multiple Paris Club refunds; several tranches of bailout funds and Internally Generated Revenues (IGR), as we approach the 2019 election!!

Finally, skeletons from other state governor’s cupboard across the country should also be exposed so that Nigeria citizens can also experience super active and responsive governance, in so far as that will jolt the governors throughout Nigeria to remain awake to their responsibilities of governance for the overall benefit of Nigeria. More videos please!
