- From Iniabasi Umo, Uyo

Following the chaos that broke out at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress in the state yesterday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the state.

The state chairman of the party, Ini Okopido, in a statement, alleged that Governor Udom Emmanuel was unable to resolve the crisis.

He alleged that Emmanuel visited the Assembly with a crowd of thugs, policemen, DSS officials and some of his commissioners and government officials to cause chaos, adding that the five APC lawmakers were beaten up by the governor’s thugs his orders.

He said the governor’s press conference and call for the police commissioner’s removal worsened the already tensed situation.

He said former Governor Godswill Akpabio was not responsible for the crisis.

Reacting, Governor Emmanuel, through his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerette Udo described the call for a state of emergency in the state as laughable.

“The laughable plot to declare a state of emergency in Akwa Ibom by the APC has the being the sole motivating impulse in the violence and the charade they are currently pushing in the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly,” he said.

Yesterday, many women protested the Tuesday’s in Uyo invasion of the House of Assembly by thugs and demanded the removal of the Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo.

The women, led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Glory Edet; a former Minister of Land, Akon Eyakenyi and the People’s Democratic Party women leader, Mmeme Akpabio, described the invasion as “intimidation by the federal government”.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kimo, has denied involvement in the crisis.

Reacting to allegations by Governor Emmanuel that he supervised illegalities at the Assembly, the CP said his duty is to sustain the existing peace and not aggravate it.

He said politicians had not how to play politics of peace. learnt
