FCT chair advocates propagation of golf in schools
The newly appointed FCT Golf Association Chairman, Engr. Oladapo Olaide Mohammed has promised to work tirelessly to ensure Abuja becomes the Nigeria’s golf tourist centre while advocating for the development of the sport in public schools.
He made the assertion while briefing newsmen at the FCT Golf Association 2018 inaugural Kitty and prize presentation at the IBB Golf and Country Club in Abuja yesterday.
Mohammed stressed the need to reintroduce golf in public schools in a bid to develop the sport at the grassroots level.
“Our board will introduce the game to all the secondary schools in Abuja as efforts and plans to achieve such programmes are in progress, because these children in the public schools have to be taught the game at their tender age for them to be able to represent the country in future tournaments.
We shall strive to remove the myth of Golf as exclusive for the rich and encourage the youths to start golf early.
“We are also working on how we can inculcate civil servants and private sector officials. This will geometrically increase the density and quality of the players. This will also enable social networking and the benefits associated with it,” he said.
Furthermore, the chairman said “In conjunction with relevant government authorities, we are also looking at making Abuja a preferred golf tourist destination. Abuja city will be made the preferred destination for golfers,” he added.
