Groups laud NSCDC over payment of officers’ allowances

- From Nurudeen Oyewole, Lagos

Two civil society groups, Good Governance Project Initiative (GGPI) and Workers Rights Protection Network (WORP) have applauded the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, for the payment of six-month allowances to officers and men of the corps.

In a joint statement by Inuwa Sule, Executive Secretary, WORP and Omede Charles, Executive Director, GGPI; the groups said the payment of allowances, especially for men and officers at the liberated north-eastern states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, among others, was laudable.

According to them, this will enhance current repositioning and rebranding of the NSCDC for effective service delivery in the reduction of criminalities and vandalism of assets across Nigeria. The groups also said this would help enhance adequate security for the ember months, the fight against terrorism and being in good stead for the 2019 general elections which are few months away.

“This gesture is such that should be emulated by both public and private organizations in the country towards a peaceful celebrations of the Christmas and in preparation of the forthcoming elections because a happy family will produce a highly motivated officer or personnel which lends credence to the biblical injunction when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice,” the statement read.

The groups urged Nigerians to be extra vigilant and support the security agencies in the task of defending and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation and report any suspicious movement of persons or group of people to the authorities when the need arises.
