2 UniAbuja students nabbed over battery theft

Two students and a graduate of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) have been arrested for allegedly stealing four heavy duty batteries and an inverter at the main campus of the university.

A source at the university confirmed the arrest to our reporter in his office on Friday.

The source said the students were arrested by security personnel who were on patrol, adding that the suspects were handed over to the crime section of the university’s security on Thursday night.

He said the trio, who came in a vehicle, broke into the main ETF lecture theatre on the main campus and removed four truck batteries and an inverter.

He said the students in 300 level in the Department of Primary Education, while the ex-student was a graduate of Biology.

The Chief Security Officer of the university, Col. Solomon Ngbede (rtd), confirmed the arrest of the three suspects, saying they confessed stealing the four batteries, including an inverter from the ETF lecture hall.

Col. Ngbede added that the three suspects were handed over to the Iddo Police Division for further investigat­ion.

When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said he was not aware of the incident, but said he would make enquiries.

The informatio­n officer of the university, Garba Waziri, confirmed the arrest of the suspects but declined to speak further, saying the matter was already with the police.
