The two teams that represented Nigeria at the 2018 Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) World Cup in Durban South Africa, Government Girls Secondary School Garki and Government Girls Secondary School Abaji were honoured for their brilliant performance at the World Entrepreneurship Competition by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN.

The teams and their teachers numbering twelve were each presented with an HP laptop. GGSS Abaji and GGSS Garki also received the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira each from SMEDAN.

Nigeria has won the SAGE World Cup for eight times, but could not in this year’s edition. GGSS Abaji competed in the Social Enterprise Business Category while GGSS Garki Abuja competed in the Socially Responsible Business category respectively.

In a statement, the Director General of SMEDAN Dr Dikko Umaru Radda congratulated the students who participated and made the country proud at the event in South Africa.

He said investing in education was the most important investment any government could make, adding that when a country invests in young people, she invests in the future.

He however said the lack of entrepreneurship education was the main reason Nigeria is one of the countries with highest rate of youth unemployment.

The Programme Manager of SAGE Nigeria Ms Chinenye Udeh said the two teams that represented the country are public schools in Abuja and they gave a good account of themselves in South Africa.
