7 dams ready for commission­ing, FG says

The Shagari Irrigation project in Sokoto State, is among seven dams due to be inaugurate­d for full utilisatio­n soon, the Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Suleman Adamu has said.

Speaking on his achievemen­ts since he assumed office Adamu said others that were completed were Kashimbila Dam in Taraba, Ogwashi-Uku dam in Delta, Galma dam in Kano and Ekeremor water supply project in Edo.

Also to be inaugurate­d are Mangu water supply project in Plateau State as well as Federal University of Agricultur­e, Markudi water supply project in Benue State.

He said nine other inherited water projects were also completed and commission­ed within the period.

The minister said these included the Central Ogbia Regional water project in Bayelsa, Northern Ishan Regional water supply, rehabilita­tion of Ojirami Dam water supply project both in Edo, Sabke, Dutse and Mashi water supply projects in Katsina.

Adamu said Middle-Rima Valley Irrigation Project in Sokoto was among other irrigation slated for completion in the next two years.

Others are the Middle-Ogun irrigation project in Oyo State, , Gari irrigation project Kano/ Jigawa states, Kontagora Auna dam project, Niger State, Bagauda irrigation project, Kano State, Tada Shonga irrigation project, Kwara, Adani Rice irrigation project, Anambra, Ekuku dam project, Kogi and Lower Anambra irrigation project, Anambra State.

The minister said he inherited 116 major on-going and abandoned projects made up of 38 irrigation and drainage projects, 37 dam projects and 41 water supply projects.

He said after a technical audit, the ministry decided to priorities the projects and completed all the viable ones.
