Senator Aruwa is dead

- From Mohammed Yaba, Kaduna.

A former senator of the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Muhammed Aruwa, died yesterday at a private hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna.

He was buried at Unguwar Sarki Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.

Those present at the funeral prayer held at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna included, former Vice President Namadi Sambo

Governor Malam Nasir El-rufai, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former Governor Ramalan Yero, People’s Democratic Party’s governorsh­ip candidate Isa Ashiru and his Social Democratic Party counterpar­t, Haruna Sa’eed.

Aruwa was elected senator in 1999 on the All Peoples Party’s platform.

Deputy Senate Leader Bala Ibn Na’Allah described the late Aruwa as a humble and courageous person who worked tirelessly in the Senate and outside to defend the interest of his constituen­ts and the entire country.

Later in a statement by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, Governor El-Rufai described the late Aruwa as a philanthro­pist who contribute­d to sports, farming and politics in Kaduna State.

The governor said the late senator assisted people in different sectors.

He said: “He made a significan­t contributi­on to sport in Kaduna State, especially football and polo. He establishe­d the R. anchers Bees Football Club that produced many stars, like Daniel Amokachi, Tajudeen Oyekanmi, Abubakar Balarabe and some of the Babayaro brothers.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State, we extend our heartfelt condolence­s to his immediate and the entire family. May Allah grant his soul Aljannah Firdausi.”
