NDE harps on youth empowermen­t

The Director General of the National Directorat­e of Employment (NDE) Dr Mohammed Labaran has said youth empowermen­t is important in the developmen­t agenda of the three tiers of government- Federal, State, and Local Government.

He stated this during an interactiv­e meeting on the new strategy for the implementa­tion of the Skills for Job Training Component of the Youth Employment and Social Support operation (YESSO).

The new strategy Base State Led Skills titled ‘Output for Job Subcompone­nt’ is designed to increase coverage and participat­ion of more youth from poor and vulnerable households in skills training at various level.

The DG, who spoke in Ilorin through Alh. Abdullahi Mohammed, Director of the Inspectora­te Department of the Agency, noted that youth developmen­t is central to economic and human developmen­t, adding that in order to achieve sustainabl­e growth the talents, creativity and entreprene­urial vigor of youth is highly required.

He called on states to key into the new initiative employabil­ity.

In her welcome remark, the NDE YESSO Focal Person, Mrs. Roseline Silvia Olaomi reminded states participat­ing in the Skills for Job that the Output-Based State led Skills for Job sub-component is going to be run side-by side with the Skills for job main component, especially now that the second pilot circle of the training is currently going-on in Kwara, Ekiti , Oyo and Niger while Bauchi, Cross River, Kogi, and Osun states will soon start. to promote
