Amaechi planning to bomb INEC offices – Wike

- From Victor Edozie, Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, in a broadcast yesterday, alleged that Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi had concluded plans to bomb INEC offices, destroy voting materials at registration area centres and disrupt the conduct of the general elections in the state.

Wike said: “Credible intelligence has linked Rotimi Amaechi and his cohorts in the factionalised APC to prevent the peaceful conduct of the general elections in Rivers State with the support of some unpatriotic military and police officers.

“I wish to therefore appeal to the conscience of Rotimi Amaechi, as a brother and fellow compatriot, to stop stoking the drumbeats of violence and allow the prevailing peace to continue in our dear Rivers State “.

He called on the international community to hold Amaechi responsible for any outbreak of violence during the elections.

Wike declared today a work-free day for Rivers people to pray for God’s intervention for peaceful elections.

Reacting yesterday while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Amaechi said he would never support violence.

He said he was visiting the houses of the 15 persons who died at President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally in Port Harcourt to condole their families.

He said when 12 people died in a stampede at former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally in Port Harcourt in 2015, he saw people eat lunch when the incident occurred.

“Persons have gone, whether for good or for bad, they will never come back. I will never support violence and I will never support injustice,” he stated.

“As I told you, we are going out on Saturday to vote for President Buhari. If INEC decides to obey the stay of execution, then we will arrange for election on Saturday.

But since the INEC chairman is working for the PDP and since he does not want to obey the court decisions, he was a Director of TETFUND when Wike was junior minister, so be it. God bless him,” Amaechi said.
