Rejuvenate­d Akwa United

Arejuvenat­ed Akwa United side held hosts Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw in one of the Match Day 9 matches of the Nigeria Profession­al Football League played yesterday.

The game played at the Umuahia Township Stadium yesterday, saw the home side making 11 changes to the side that lost at El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.

The entire starting 11 that made the trip to Maiduguri were either rested or left on the bench.

From the blast of the whistle, both teams struggled to keep the ball under control on a bumpy pitch which made the teams struggle to keep the ball but was enough for Abia Warriors’ Chinedu Ozor to open scoring, blasting home from the near post following a well delivered corner in the 28th minute.

However, Akwa’s Mfon Udoh leveled scores in the 33rd minute for his 5th goal of the season.

In Osogbo, hosts Remo Stars, who have been banished to Osogbo by the League Management Company over fans attack on match officials, defeated Kwara United in a 2-1.

Mathias Ogwuche scored from a brilliant pass by Omotayo Adebogun to put Remo in the lead in the 20th minute, but Daberechi Anyanwu’s header put scores at 1-1 in the dying minutes of the first half.

The home side got back in front through Mathias Ogwuche at the restart of the game to seal all three points.

In Okigwe, Heartland FC were unable to break visiting Gombe United side in a game that ended 1-1.

Chidiebere Ajoku shot Heartland into the lead rising high to nod in Uche Oguchi’s cross.

They held onto their lead till 90th minute when a penalty kick was awarded to their opponents which was scored by Chigozie Maurice.

Other results from other matches showed the game between Sunshine Stars and Bendel Insurance ending 1-1. In Omoku, it was the same scoreline between Go Round and Nasarawa United. However, it was a hard fought 1-0 victory for FC IfeanyiUba­h over El-Kanemi Warriors.
