Yobe Stars motivated by prompt payment of salaries

- By David Ngobua

Players of NPFL side, Yobe Desert Stars have said they are highly motivated by the prompt payment of their salaries and match bonuses.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, one of the most experienced players in the team, Shagari Mohammed said although what they earn as salaries and match bonuses are small, there is consistency in payment.

He said even as other clubs in the NPFL are owed several months of salaries, the situation in Yobe Stars is different because they are not being owed anything.

Mohammed said the players have also resolved to reciprocate the kind gestures of the management of the club by putting up better performances.

The former junior international said “We don’t have any problem of salaries and allowances in Yobe Stars. Honestly, our management is trying. They don’t owe us anything.

“The truth is that our salaries and allowances are not much so what they do is to pay as and when due. Although our colleagues in other clubs complain of lack of payment of salaries, we do not have any reason to complain.

“We are motivated by this kind gesture from the government of Yobe State. The government is supporting our management to carry out its responsibilities,” he stated.

The captain of the team, Moses Tsehuan also appreciated the management of the club as he said they have been consistent in payment of salaries and allowances.

He said the players will always do their best to justify the support from the management of the club.

“We don’t earn much but the good thing is that we are not owed. The government and management of Yobe Stars deserve commendation for this,” he said.
