Nigeria, Korea to partner on eliminating GBV, VVF
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Ifeoma Anagbogu has expressed enthusiasm on Nigerian-Korean relations towards eliminating genderbased violence (GBV) and Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).
She made this known in an interview after returning from a recently concluded study tour with the KOICA-UNFPA project.
“It is believed that over 43 percent of girls and women suffer one form of GBV or the other. Being more specific about some of the violence that affects these women and girls, consider the complications of early marriage like Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), which the Korean Government is supporting Nigeria to manage and eliminate,” she said.
“Nigeria is one of the countries that have the highest prevalence of GBV,” she said.
She also expressed how appreciative the Nigerian government is of their efforts. “These are very laudable programs from the Government of Korea. The Government of Nigeria appreciates it immensely. The national system is overstretched especially with these security challenges,” she said.
She said: “We appreciate you and thank you immensely for the partnerships and collaborations.”
She also appealed to the government of Korea to continue maintaining their operations in Nigeria, despite that “the national system is overstretched especially with the security challenges.”
