Borno INEC reconfigures 5071 smartcard readers
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Borno State has reconfigured all the 5071 smartcard readers allocated to the state preparatory to the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections holding on Saturday.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim, told journalists, yesterday, in Maiduguri that immediately after the postponement of the election last Saturday, the commission retrieved them from all the locations it had earlier distributed them.
“These smartcard readers are ready for collection for onward distribution to the designated locations by Thursday, February 21 for the Saturday elections,” he said.
The REC said following the polls shift, the commission also retrieved all sensitive election materials from all the 27 local government areas of the state, adding that, “I am happy to note that all the 27 local governments responded positively and deposited all the sensitive materials with the CBN.”
Alhaji Mohammed said the commission in Borno State had received all sensitive materials, such as ballot boxes and papers and result sheets for the elections, stressing, “we have received almost 100 percent of everything we need, except party agents’ ID cards which we expect to receive any moment from now (Tuesday noon).”
He assured of adequate security for election materials and staff throughout the election period following collaboration with security agencies in the state.
