Election result: Youths threaten to burn Plateau APC chairman’s house
Hoodlums yesterday morning surrounded the house of the All Progressives Congress’ chairman in Plateau State, Leteb Dabang and threatened to burn it.
They accused him of influencing the cancellation of votes from Tudun Wada/Kabong ward in Jos North Local Government Area.
The results from the ward had been Monday cancelled during the collation for presidential election due to the inability of the returning officer to produce the original result sheets of the various polling units.
A security man around Dabang’s resident in Rock Heaven said the youth had described Dabang as a traitor whose actions were responsible for the lack of declaration of result for the Plateau North senate seat and the House of Representative seat for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.
Our correspondent, who spoke with Dabang, learnt that the intervention of security agencies saved the day.
Dabang said: “Those who stormed my house in the morning are PDP hoodlums. They made several threats and allegations that I was responsible for the lack of receipt of votes from Tudun Wada/Kabong. They threatened to burn my house but I contacted security agents, to come and disperse them. But the thing is that they promised to come back.”
The chairman said the allegation that he was responsible for the cancellation of the results was baseless, saying “I am not the collation officer for INEC? We have agents around who are equal to the task, I have not even been to the collation centre.”
PDP Publicity Secretary, John Akans, yesterday did not respond to calls made to him and text message sent to his phone.
