Group condemns PDP’s rejection of election results

- By Ozibo Ozibo

A civil society group has condemned the rejection of the results of last Saturday’s presidential election by the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus.

Describing the rejection as a “recipe for national disaster,” the group told Nigerians to ignore any such move by the PDP, since the interest of the country is greater than the interest of any group or individual.

In a press statement in Abuja, yesterday, national secretary of the group, Dr. Abdulwahab Ehidike, also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Service (DSS) to arrest and prosecute any person or group that threatens the ongoing peaceful electoral process.

“We therefore condemn the stance of the PDP national chairman and call on him to withdraw his statement and apologise to Nigerians.

“Nigerians should also ignore any such move by the PDP because the interest of Nigeria is greater than the interest of any individual.

“We call on INEC and the DSS to initiate arrest and prosecution against anyone who wishes to cost Nigeria its peace and electoral process,” Ehidike said.

He wondered why the PDP, which had conducted series of elections before 2019, and also controlled the government for 16 years, should be in the forefront to plunge the country into a post-election crisis.

He further noted that the statement by Secondus was not only shocking and irresponsible but also illmotivated, and admonished those with genuine grievances against the results so far announced, to explore legal channels.
