I was persecuted, says Bauchi PRP Rep-elect
A recently elected member of the House of Representatives from Bauchi State, Yakubu Abdullahi, has said the persecution, intimidation and harassment targeted at him before the election made his contest the most difficult in the state.
Abdullahi, who won the Bauchi Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), said he was forced out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor Mohammed Abubakar of the state.
“Even before I joined the PRP after my exit from the APC, Governor Abubakar, in connivance with some elements in the police, tried to intimidate me and scuttle my ambition.
“The governor was using the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to intimidate me. Some days to the election, some of my supporters were arrested without committing any offence while I was personally accosted,” he alleged.
The lawmaker, who is also a member of Bauchi State House of Assembly, added that he joined the PRP as an alternative platform to answer the call of his people at the federal level.
He promised to support President Muhammadu Buhari, and also commended the youth and women of the area who supported him massively.
The PRP candidate polled 69,000 votes in the election to beat his closest rival, Sabo Mohammed of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 53,000 and Aminu Garu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who came third with 43,000 votes.
